Summer Palace is 15 kilometers (9

well-preserved royal park in China,
The construction of Summer Palace
started in 1750 as a luxurious royal garden for royal families to
rest and entertain. It later became the main residence of royal
members in the end of the Qing Dynasty. Empress Dowager Cixi embezzled navy
funds to reconstruct it as a resort in which to spend the rest of her
life
We took Exit D from the
Beigongmen Subway station, walked west 3 min to North palace gate.
Composed mainly of
Longevity Hill (Wanshou Shan) and Kunming Lake, Summer Palace
occupies an area of 300.59 hectares (742.8 acres). There are over
3,000 man-made ancient structures with building space of more
than 70,000 square meters, including pavilions, towers, bridges,
corridors, etc. It can be divided into four parts: the Court Area,
Front and Rear Area of Longevity Hill, and Kunming Lake Area.
This is the re creation of
water town Suzhou. Separate ticket and it opens only after 9 am. We
came here later on our way out.
TIP: Go up the Longevity hill to
the Buddhist temple, down through the main pavilion, around to the
Marble Boat, then out the East Gate and out to the Yuxan subway for a
very efficient visit.
