ANTIQUITY SECTION: EGYPT

RELIQUARIES

The time was 12.30 and we left the museum and walked to the queue for the BOYS CHOIR.

BOYS CHOIR AT 1 PM:

People who had reservation made online walked in to the Basilica.  Others were then allowed un.  The Basilica was lit and looked magnificent. The boys sang for 10 minutes. It was good. We have had the privilege of hearing Gregorian chants ar Sr Basils, Moscow, wedding service in Novodevichy, awesome choirs in NY etc.
Here it was amazing to see the church lit up.
Can see the Masonna altar high above the choirboys.

BASILICA

We enjoyed the sight of the altars.

Then walked 2 minutes to get to our hotel.

LA MORENETA / BLACK MADONNA

There is usually a long line of pilgrims to see La Moreneta. One has to go through the Angel Door, which has designs of many angel musicians adorning it. Then one goes up many steps until one reaches the Shrine of the Virgin and Child and sees La Moreneta. The ceiling above the statue has beautiful mosaics 1947.

We did not have any line. We went through the passages, there was beauty in every nook and we thoroughly enjoyed.

ANGEL DOOR

The statue of the Virgin is called “La Moreneta” because of the black color of her face. The statue is a wooden Romanesque statue from the end of the 12th century. The varnish on the statue has oxidized and because of the effect of candle smoke and the smoke of lamps, the appearance is now black. The Virgin has a crown of diadems and has a ball in her hand. On her lap is a statue of Jesus Christ. He also has a crown and His hand is making a sign of blessing, while the other hand is holding a pine cone.
MEMORABLE!

SANT JUAN FUNICULAR

Sant Joan Funicular Railway

This funicular offers a spectacular panoramic view of Montserrat Mountain, 1,000 m above sea level. The viewpoint offers a bird’s-eye view of the monastery as well as spectacular views of the surrounding area and the Pyrenees.

At the top of the mountain, from Pla de les TarĆ ntules, it is interesting to do day trips or walks that are signposted along the way, with different difficulty levels and length, to suit everyone.

We had taken the last ride that day. We came down and walked around the village
