Day 3 Oct 12 2021 Tuesday:
It had snowed heavily the previous night, dumping 8 inches of snow in the vicinity. Such a freak occurrence for that time of year, but, it had been forecast. The park was closed. We were taken were surprise and analyzing our options online, we realized that Grand Teton Park was open since their website did not mention any closures.
We rang up the hotel in Teton Village, where we had booked to stay later that week...and they confirmed. Of course, the easier route into Grand Teton is thru the South Entrance of YNP, but YNP was closed. So, we decided to take the roundabout route thru Idaho into the Jackson Hole entrance of Grand Teton.
The roads were snow laden and unplowed in Montana, but as we hit Idaho border, the roads had been ploughed and driving was less difficult
SUCH A WELCOME CHANGE
. The drive was quite scenic on a cliff road, with a river flowing in the canyon below. As we neared the Grand Teton park, the road flattened out and had absolutely no snow. Our hotel surroudings were so scenic. Our room was great as well
It was an awesome drive into the park. We had our lunch, enjoyed the amazing snow clad mountain scenery, did the Jenny lake lookout drive.
Cool muse mural in Jackson
JENNY LAKE LOOKOUT
From the visitor center, we confirmed that the south entrance was open (it had been closed the previous day, and the whole YNP park had been closed that morning).
We drove in thru the south entrance and exited the YNP park thru our west entrance and reached our hotel. It had not been a washout for us, and even the long drive had been worth it.
