November 29 Saturday: Mud Crab statue, 0km Krabi, Fossil Shell Beach Krabi, Thai Vietjet Airlines Flight back Krabi to Bangkok which was scheduled at 8:30 PM but took off only at 10:15 PM
STAY: Yellow Ribbon Hills Boutique Suites Bangkok
Checked out
What we had missed
We had penciled in Khao Sok national park day trip, 4-island day trip, Kho Phiphi day trip etc but given up for various reasons.
Considering Thailand's windy roads Khao Sok national park day trip would not have been advisable just for a short cruise on Lake. We were fine with our sample island trip, did not want to be part of tour groups for the other island day trips, DIY would not have been possible in just a day.
We could have driven to Emerald pools, Tiger cave, did not fancy 1250 steps to climb and were scared of aggressive monkeys
Our flight back to Bangkok was only at 8:30 PM. We got up late and checked out only by 11.
These were our bags, we were checking in the red bag in the right. The small red day pack on the left had food for the day and was going inside the big red bag. The big plastic bag had water bottles, that bag was going to be folded up and put in the big bag. So our cabin stuff was just the small brown bag and the small black day pack. Our strolleys fold down very small, they are light. At Bangkok airport, the girl had measured them and allowed them. World over, we have had no problem with them. Surprisingly the Thai Vietjet Airlines checkin girl at Krabi airport created problems for us at the airport... more of it at the end of this post
Left the key on table as requested
We drove to city center
saw some 10 mosques
Mud crabs sculpture symbolizing Krabi's marine life
We drove to the estuary with a massive mud crabs sculpture symbolizing Krabi's marine life. It features a mother mud crab with three baby crabs, Set beside the Krabi River estuary near Khanap Nam Pier, the sculpture offers beautiful views of the water and the iconic Khao Khanap Nam mountains, Lan Pu Dam, Krabi Town.
The popular crab sculptures in town lead many to mistakenly believe the name is related to crabs, but it's just a local symbol.
"Krabi" (กระบี่) means "sword" in Thai.
The name is linked to a legend about an ancient sword discovered when the city was established.
the dramatic Khao Khanap Nam mountains is considered the gateway to Krabi Town. The calm river, mangroves, and passing longtail boats create a relaxed, local atmosphere — very different from Ao Nang’s tourist buzz.
This area also serves as a departure point for mangrove and cave boat tours.
Zero Km Plaque
It marks the spot (Krabi Town) from which travel distances to other attractions are calculated indicating Krabi Town, the provincial capital, as the hub from which other famous destinations like Ao Nang, Railay Beach, and the Phi Phi Islands are measured, with Railay being about 10km away and Ao Nang around 14km, showcasing Krabi's diverse offerings from tranquil town life to stunning beaches and islands
We walked along the river promenade, here's another crab...
More sea creatures
There was a fountain here but it stopped suddenly. 2 homeless guys were occupying the only benches here, so we didnot linger
Boats heading into mangrove channels... we declined a ride
Fossil Shell Beach
We drove to a mangrove park but the gate was locked. So we went to the Fossil Shell Beach. They were charging 200 baths entry, only cash. Refused to take USD or credit card, their online portal did not wotk. So we just sat in the outer area till 5.
We had our packed lunch at 12 and at 4:30 actively shooing away the 3 cats and rooster, hens roaming around there
Rooster in question...
Statues at signals and on lamp posts
There were some lovely statues at signals and on lamp posts
As mentioned before, the girl said our strolleys should not be used for wheeling our bag, we should put them into a separate bag and carry them. Made no sense. She kept approaching us when we were at the boarding gate too. I decided to confront her, asked her for her name, said I wanted to mention her new rule to her airlines as they had allowed the same strolleys on our flight into Krabi. She said 'show me your boarding pass'. I showed her on our phone. Other staff jumped in and said I was allowed to wheel my bag. Even at the end of the tube, some girl intercepted me, I told her I had cleared the matter, she rang up, confirmed and then let me in!! What a stupid furore over nothing!
The flight was scheduled at 8:30 PM but took off only at 10:15 PM. There was this leach near our seat the airport.
anyway we got a grab taxi and were speeding through Bangkok roads at 1am and then reached our hotel. Withour asking, the guy brought out the bag we had left with them 3 days ago, checked us in a second.
