MEXICO DAY 11: Puebla Zocalo and Rosary Chapel

DAY 11 OCT 3, SUNDAY

One church not to miss among the many in Puebla is the stunning Rosary Chapel inside the Church of Santo Domingo. The opulent chapel, which is free to enter, is covered in gold leaf and is a breathtaking example of Mexican Baroque architecture.

I'M USUALLY METICULOUS ABOUT NOTING TIMINGS/ OFF DAYS. Paying attention to not miss Cholula church, i had not noticed Rosary chapel in Santa Domingo church may not be open for tourism on Sundays.

When i checked, it was written the chapel opens on Sundays at 3 pm.

I felt terrible for my oversight.

The original plan had been to see left over agenda and leave by noon to CDMX on Sunday.

We walked through the quiet streets.

Son is a huge admirer of St Peter, always takes a pic with him... LOVES the sight of the big key he holds

We saw a mass going on at a church we passed by

We went to the Domingo church premises but the church was closed.

We walked back

In zocalo, saw a corner we had missed on our 1st day.

We walked the candy street also. Nothing caught our fancy for buying.

SANTA DOMINGO CHURCH

We returned to the church at 11, thinking we'll attend the mass at 11. It was not likely to be at the Rosary chapel but may be we can get a peek.

A few people were lining up. We joined as 6th in line. A person came from inside the church and told the people going in for the masss that there was no 11am mass. It was open for tourists.

YAY!

We were very happy.

They were letting in 4 persons at one time. We went in and loved the beautiful main altar.

ROSARY CHAPEL

There was a small fee of 20 pesos for entry to Rosary chapel. We paid and entered.

It was MAGNIFICENT.

Back at the main altar

SANTA DOMINGO...
GIFT SHOP

We feasted our eyes and got out very grateful.

We went back to our hotel, VIA THE ZOCALO.

BUS BACK TO CDMX

had our food and checked out by 1 pm. Took uber to CAPU.

At CAPU, Puebla, WE BOUGHT TICKETS BACK TO CDMX [the lady asked for ID to write the correct spelling. From Oct 1, we need to carry the passport as ID for buying bus tickets]and then walked to the gate 1 ADO.

THERE IS ANOTHER COMPANY GATES BEFORE ADO.

We went there by mistake and showed our ticket, they pointed us to keep going. we reached ADO Gates, they took temperature check and let us into the lounge. our bus came in a minute, we showed our tickets to the guy at the gate and boarded the bus.

Returned to CDMX TAPO terminal at a reasonable hour as we had wished. Called uber and returned to our hotel.

Bought some provisions from the Superama and settled in.

We were so happy our trips had gone as planned and the sights had exceeded expectation
