IMPRESSIONISM:

Impressionism was an art movement that began in the late 1800s, centered primarily around Parisian painters. Impressionists rebelled against classical subject matter [which had been just religious subjects and portraits]and created works that reflected the world in which they lived. 



Impressionists  emphasise the effects of light in their paintings.
They use short, thick strokes of paint to capture the essence of the object rather than the subject's details.

Quickly applied brush strokes give the painterly illusion of movement and spontaneity..
